Rethinking your career
You’ve spent years building your career, gaining experience in your field, and working towards your goals. From the outside, everything might look polished, but you find yourself questioning whether the career you’ve built is still the one you want.
You might feel you’ve outgrown your current role or that your work no longer gives you the same sense of satisfaction, but you can’t quite imagine what you’d do next. There might even be a feeling that you’ve spent so long working towards your professional goals that you haven’t stopped to ask what you actually want.
You may even have been thinking about making a change for some time, talking to friends, and researching different options, and still find yourself going around in circles. Maybe this is what brought you to coaching: you’re questioning what needs to change, and what that change could look like in practice.
Rethinking your career can be surprisingly difficult, especially when you’ve invested years into getting where you are. There are often financial or personal commitments to consider, and starting over might not feel particularly appealing. There might also be a sense that changing direction would mean giving up everything you’ve worked towards or a worry about making a decision you’ll later regret.
A career change isn’t always the answer, either. Sometimes, a change in your role, your working environment, or even your own definition of success can help you move forward.
How can coaching support you as you rethink your career?
When you’ve spent a long time thinking about the same questions, it’s easy to find yourself returning to familiar conclusions. Coaching offers a different kind of conversation: one where someone helps you examine your thinking, question assumptions you might not have noticed, and consider perspectives you haven’t yet explored.
Depending on your situation, some topics our conversations might focus on are:
Understanding what’s changed. Exploring what feels unsatisfying about your current situation, what’s still working, and what you might be missing.
Reconsidering your priorities. Looking at what matters to you today, what you want from your career and life, and whether the goals you’ve been pursuing are still your own.
Challenging your assumptions. Questioning what you believe is possible, what might be holding you back, and whether some of the limitations you see are as fixed as they seem.
Exploring new possibilities. Considering different career directions, ways to reshape your current role, or opportunities you haven’t previously taken seriously.
Turning insights into action. Finding practical ways to test your ideas, gather new information, and gradually build the confidence to make decisions.
These aren’t predetermined steps we’ll follow — coaching is entirely tailor-made for each client, and you decide what you want to focus on in each session.
Rethinking your career rarely happens through one big realization. While some might gain enough clarity in one session, a coaching partnership spanning several months can give you the opportunity to develop your ideas, try things out in practice, reflect on what you learn, and adjust your thinking along the way.
You might discover an entirely new direction you want to pursue, or find that you’d rather stay on your current career path but approach it differently. The goal isn’t always to change careers but to make a more informed, intentional decision about your next steps and feel ready to make it happen.
